What we believe
As a lab, we believe in equality, diversity, and inclusion. We believe in equal opportunities for women, everywhere. We believe that black lives matter and in promoting underrepresented people of color in science. We embrace our LGBTQIA family. We support our autistic colleagues and students. We acknowledge the need to identify our implicit biases and commit our efforts to correct them.
Virus Discovery
Virus Characterization
Virus Evolution
In the Anthony lab, we study viruses of wildlife. We study their diversity and distribution in nature (viral discovery), identify the viruses that are hazardous to humans and other species (viral characterization), and study the evolution of viral traits that influence the potential for spillover and disease emergence (viral evolution).
The goal of our work is to get better at identifying viruses with the potential to emerge in humans or other animals.
